How to Have a Balanced Lifestyle. I had loaned a book to a friend that offered some natural remedies for his problems with arthritis and hypertension.
When he returned the book, he made this statement. ”Reuben, I would have to change my whole lifestyle if I followed these suggestions.” My reply was, “Your lifestyle is what created the problems you are experiencing.”
I knew my friend loved the typical ‘southern style’ foods. Biscuits and gravy, bacon or sausage and eggs, for breakfast. Or, if he was running late for work, coffee and donuts.
He carried his lunch to work most of the time. It would consist of bologna and cheese sandwiches on white bread, or a can of Vienna sausages and crackers. And, there was always the fried pies or candy bars for dessert, washed down with a cola, or coffee.
As my father used to say, “Son, for things to change, you got to change.”
Let’s examine his diet and see if we can find the problem.
Breakfast: Bacon, ham, or sausage. Meats high in sodium, nitrates, hormones, chemicals. Very acidic. Biscuits and gravy…a mixture of white flour, salt, animal fats… devoid of all life.
Lunch: Bologna, vienna sausage, processed cheese, white bread, white crackers. Again, high sodium, lots of chemicals, preservatives…very acidic. Then, add the candy bar and cola, with all the sugars, artificial colors, artificial flavors, and you wind up will very little ‘real’ food.
We won’t even discuss whats for dinner! He has already ate enough ‘junk’ to clog his arteries, develop kidney stones, constipate him, and give him a migraine, which will eventually turn into arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart failure.
A Balanced Lifestyle is not complicated. Its not hard to do. Its just a matter of doing the ‘little’ things every day that count.
Alkaline Diet-Always eat at least one serving of raw fruits and vegetables with each meal. Fresh first, frozen next, canned foods last. Eat very little meat, very little bread. If possible eat range feed beef and chicken.
NEVER drink colas, especially diet colas. If you drink something with your meals, try alkaline water, herb teas, or tea. Juices are better on an empty stomach.
Moderate Exercise-Power walking, bike riding, tread mill, anything that you enjoy that will get your pulse rate up to its target. Just get of the couch and do something.
Mind Control- Remember, it’s your mind. Don’t let anyone else control it. Think for yourself. Make your own decisions. Stay away from negative people. I know we all need to seek advice at times, but, the final choice is yours. Feed your mind with good books, good thoughts…keep it active.
Attitude-If you think you can, or can’t, you are right. My daily verse from the Bible: This is the day which the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24. God gave me the day. I can chose what I do with it.
The more ‘junk’ foods you eat, the more food supplements you need to take. But, do not think that taking supplements will replace the real food you need.
For more information, an acid/alkaline balance food chart, and more a more detailed plan, you need to read my book, ‘Seven Steps to Good Health’.
Its amazes me at the people that are suffering with various physical and mental problems, but not willing to do anything about it.
I hope you are not one of them…
